Torcross is a fundamentally quiet small village situated where the A379 turns away from the coast inland toward Kingsbridge.

The village has a general stores selling papers and general "provisions/groceries" with post office, a gift shop, pottery store (gifts). It also has a pub selling food and restaurant/cafe selling alcohol! (see our eating out guide). The jewel in the Torcross Crown is probably the Slapton Ley Nature Reserve where the best way to savour its delights is to take a guided walk.
Torcross also has one of the countries most unusual war memorials in the form of a Sherman amphibious tank. The beach area was used for rehearsals for the D-Day landings to follow and during exercises 749 American servicemen lost their lives when their ships were torpedoed by German Schnellboote craft who simply noticed a lot of radio activity in the area, went to investigate and came across a convoy of ships on their way to Torcross Beach from Portland.
Here is an excellent panoramic view of the whole area, and one of the beach area here, notice how quiet our beach is even on a beautiful day!

People staying at Waterside House can leave their cars in our car park if they wish, and see the whole area by bus! The views from the top of our passing double-deckers are something to be savoured, and when it meets a car towing a caravan coming the other way at a "pinch point" on one of the local roads you can sit back and watch them have "fun" trying to pass each other. The bus stop is just about outside our door. The route is the 93 which goes from Plymouth, to Kingsbridge, then Torcross on to Dartmouth. It runs about every half hour during morning and evening "peaks" and then hourly during the middle of the day. There is a timetable here. Please note the buses do not run after about 7/7.30 in the evenings.

A number of people who pass
through Torcross are on foot, passing along
The South West
Coast Path, and for an excellent, if energetic, day out you could walk a
section of it from Torcross along to the
lighthouse at Start Point and back,
and should you wish to,
you can take a guided tour (recommended). You will also pass by
the ruined
village of Hallsands.
This is around three miles each way, and
to break your journey you can pop in for a pint and a bite to eat at
The Cricket Inn, Beesands
(pictured above). The pub overlooks the sea.

Torcross has its own small chapel which has services most Sundays at 3pm, details here.
